My was surprised at how elaborate the constitution was, as well as its history. Aiming to establish a stronger central government, Federalist such as Alexander Hamilton and James Madison promoted their ideas at the Constitutional Convention. These ideas were later drafted by the young Thomas Jefferson, who wrote the constitution as we know it today. The foundations we value as Americans were written by the same men who would construct the outline of how America works, and to this day, we use the same philosophies and rules they did.
The constitution is the foundation of American government and laws. The main themes of the constitution are to protect individual liberties, as well as to protect against tyranny. Through checks and balances, the powers given to all three branches of government shield from one over-ruling another, and makes the system a little more fair. The clauses in each article give these 3 branches their power because the people give them the powers to do so, through the consent of the governed. This protects the citizen, as they have the power to elect their own representatives to voice their thoughts.
