Gerrymadering

My all time favorite topic this year has to be gerrymandering. Something about the exploitation of a dominant political party crippling its opponents by redrawing lines where they have a clear disadvantage just spoke to me on a spiritual level. Having the power to draw the lines of and shape districts is a power given to the party who is currently dominating congress. This is an important issue because a district shape may start as 100 republicans and 100 democrats, however, gerrymandering allows the shape and number of districts to allow for one party's population to reign supreme over the other.

Everyone should really know about the power of gerrymandering as it may cause people to feel violated and often times misrepresented. A district may be redrawn at anytime and a person's representative can change, leaving them without a voice, given that they have do not know the process behind them. The few that are aware are given the advantage, as they know who is representing them and reap the benefits of simply knowing what political party is pulling the strings.
